Laboratory
What each instrument is for.
Method and the failure it predicts — the two columns a QA auditor actually reads.
| Instrument | Method | What it actually catches |
|---|---|---|
| Retroreflectometer | ASTM E810 · 0.2° / 0.33° / 1.0° observation | Any RA deviation above 8% from the approved sample |
| Spectrophotometer | ASTM E1349 / E308, D65 10° | Colour outside the colour box — the usual reason a sign looks off next to the old one |
| Xenon-arc weathering | ASTM G155, 2,000 h | Yellowing and micro-cracking that show up in year three, not year one |
| Temperature / humidity | 65 °C at 95% RH, 1,000 h | Adhesive that loses initial tack after a container crossing the equator |
| 180° peel | ASTM D903 | Winter de-lamination on cold-applied film |
| Salt spray | ASTM B117, 500 h | Corrosion at the edge of aluminium-backed product |
| Impact | ASTM D2794, 2 kg · 1 m | Film that survives the roll but not the sign shop |
| Low-temperature bend | −30 °C, 10 mm mandrel | Cracking when applied in a Nordic or Canadian winter |
Traceability
A claim traced to a two-hour window.
Lot number → coating run → oven log → adhesive batch → slitting record → container number. In practice this is what shortens a dispute from six weeks to four days.
01
Lot number on the roll
Printed on the core and on the COA inside the container.
02
Coating run and oven log
Zone temperatures, line speed and UV dose for that run.
03
Retained sample
Stored at 23 °C / 50% RH for 36 months, indexed by lot.
04
Container number
Ties the shipment back to the slitting record and the roll.
