EN 12899-1 covers fixed vertical road signs in Europe, and unlike a film-only standard it also reaches the sign substrate, the edge sealing and the manufacturer's factory production control.
Retroreflective performance is expressed in classes RA1, RA2 and RA3, measured on a different geometry from ASTM D4956. A film can pass RA2 and the finished sign still fail, because the standard is applied to the sign, not the roll.
An ASTM D4956 report is not accepted as evidence of CE conformity: the geometry and the minimum values differ, and a notified body will want the EN test. Our EN 12899-1 report is issued by TÜV (2024-11) and names the models it covers.
