Applying sheeting below 10 °C: why edges lift and how to prevent it

Adhesive tack collapses in the cold, the edge takes the load, and a pressure roller will not rescue a cold panel.

Technical noteTechnical Blog

Below roughly 10 °C the adhesive does not develop enough tack to wet out the substrate, and the edge — where the film takes wind load and cleaning — lifts first. It usually appears weeks later, which is why it gets blamed on the film.

Three things fix it in practice: apply in a heated enclosure or wait for the season, keep the roll and the panel at the same temperature for 24 hours, and roller the edges at higher pressure than the field. A cold roll applied to a cold panel with a hand squeegee is a warranty claim in slow motion.

Where cold-weather work cannot move, we recommend the narrower width and a sealed edge: fewer seams and a sealed perimeter remove the two places water gets in. Ask for the application note with the order — it is one page and it saves the conversation at year two.
